| Guangdong province held meetings in this weekend on supporting the reconstruction in the May 12th quake-hit areas.
The Provincial Party Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huanghua, stressed the importance of the restoration and reconstruction work and said the efforts will be long-lasting.
Priority should be given to restoring the basics of life for the affected people, while rebuilding infrastructure, public facilities and housing as well as professional training, support and services with the help of scientists and technicians. Supervision on quake relief funds and supplies was emphasized in the meeting.
The meeting also displayed Guangdong鈥檚 achievement in the quake-relief works.
Rescue workers from various specialized departments had arrived in the affected areas from across Guangdong province to help restore normal life and production and build temporary shelter for homeless survivors.
By June 14, Guangdong had received 4.647 Billion Yuan donation from all walks of life and materials valued 535 million Yuan. A total of 1.28 billion Yuan and 18,927 tons of disaster relief materials, worth 616 million Yuan, had allocated to the quake-hit areas.
Over 80 thousand of people from Guangdong had donated a total of 150,000 milliliters of blood for disaster relief.
Some 950 people injured in the massive earthquake in Sichuan Province had arrived in Guangdong and received treatment in 53 hospitals.
Besides, Guangdong was assigned by central government to build 140,000 make-shift houses in the quake-stricken Sichuan Province, and so far, 10947 houses have been built up at present.
