Guangdong, the pioneer of China's opening-up, would not be so prosperous today without Deng Xiaoping, says Zhang Dejiang, Secretary of CPC Committee of Guangdong Province at a gathering to commemorate Deng in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong on Aug. 21st.
A variety of activities have been held across South China's Guangdong Province these days to commemorate Deng Xiaoping, late Chinese leader and architect of China's reform and opening-up policy, with his 100th birth anniversary falling on Sunday (Aug. 22).

On Saturday (Aug. 21) morning, new version of color portrait of Deng was unveiled in Guangzhou. Located outside Liuhuahu Park, the 300-square-meter painting was redecorated for the first time in 10 years. The square has been renamed Deng Xiaoping Square.
The background has been redesigned to include new landmarks such as the new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the Olympic Sports Center and the Pearl River. >>Click into detail

Representatives of all walks of life attending a commemorative meeting on the birth anniversary of late leader Deng Xiaoping each receive an illustrative book entitled "Deng Xiaoping and Guangdong's Reform and Opening up" Saturday (Aug. 21) in Guangzhou. A grand photo exhibition is also held to commemorate the event.


A large-scale evening party named "Eternal Spring" is held in Tianhe Sports Center of Guangzhou on Aug. 22nd to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Deng Xiaoping.
With preparation work begin from April this year, the evening features the country's top artists of songs writing, stage, light and sounds and dancing and vividly reveals the great life of Deng Xiaoping with an integration of artistic forms as music, poems and pictures.
The party was organized by the Information Office, People's Government of Guangdong Province.
The Guangzhou premiere of film "My Days in France" is held on Aug. 21st. The film tells stories of Deng's stay in France when he was young, studying, struggling for a living and pursuing his dream of communism. Shenzhen, the Special Economic Zone:

Two hundred pianos and two hundred pianists bring a grand piano concert at the Shenzhen Citizens' Center Sunday (Aug. 22) afternoon, one of the activities in celebrations of the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping's birthday centenary.
Themed "Ictus of Times," the concert was held on the second floor of the Citizens' Center and was attended by Shenzhen Vice Mayor Yan Xiaopei and other leaders of the city's cultural sector including Chen Wei, director-general of the municipal cultural bureau. >>>Click into detail
 Many Shenzhen citizens climb up to the Lotus Mountain, and present bouquets to Deng Xiaoping before his statue on Aug. 21 in spite of rain.
Citizens gather to commemorate the birth anniversary of Deng Xiaoping at a special exhibition titled Xiaoping and Shenzhen, which is held in Guan Shanyue Art Museum on Sunday (Aug. 22).
Foshan, a city in Pearl River Delta:

A symphonic concert named " Deng Xiaoping - the son of Chinese people" is held in Foshan Cinema on Aug. 22, expressing Foshan citizens' memory of Deng Xiaoping with the sound of music.
Zhuhai, the Special Economic Zone: A song "Step into the new century" excites the audience in the Zhuhai's Conference Hall at a large-scale evening party titled "Hello, Xiaoping!" on Aug. 22. The evening, including five sections as "the story of spring", "A Great Man", "Deng's tour in South China", "Monument" and "Step into the New Century", pays a tribute to Deng for the great achievement that he had made in China's reform and opening-up.
