The Chinese mainland confirmed on Wednesday that more forums would be held between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Taiwan's main opposition party the Kuomintang (KMT) this year.

Li Weiyi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remark at a press briefing, echoing comments by KMT officials that the two parties would discuss the issue after China's Lunar New Year.

"Details will be worked out by relevant departments of the two parties," Li said, without elaborating.

The CPC and the KMT held two forums in 2006 following the ice-breaking journey of former KMT chairman Lien Chan in 2005.

The first forum was held last April with the focus on cross-Strait economic and trade cooperation and the other was on agriculture last October.

"The forums have had a great impact on promoting cross-Strait economic and trade cooperation and the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations," Li said.
