More effort to improve people's livelihood in 2008
2008 Guangdong Provincial People's Congress raise curtain

The first session of 11th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress completed all agendas and concluded this morning in the Guangzhou Baiyun International Conference Center.

Ou Guangyuan, Director of the Standing Committee of Guangdong People's Congress, presided the closing meeting, in which the government report, budget proposal and development plan for 2008 were approved.

Year 2008 is the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. At the end of 1978, the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee was held in Beijing, starting an era of reform and opening up.

As a pioneer in China鈥檚 reform and opening up, Guangdong province experienced distinguished thirty years. Guangdong鈥檚 GDP was ahead of other Chinese provinces and surpassed that of Taiwan in 2007, after exceeding that of Singapore and Hong Kong in 2005.

Despite the rapid economic growth, the province in recent years has input much effort in pursuing more rational and sustainable development. Problems in people鈥檚 livelihood still exist, despite the fast economic development. Education and medicare get behind, public order needs further improvement, the residents鈥 actual income still increases slowly and the gap between urban and rural areas remains expanding.

Thus, Wang Yang, Party Secretary of Guangdong, call on the governments of the province to launch a 鈥渇ree of mind鈥 campaign, so as to seek sustainable development, enhance the innovation capacity, sharp the edge of industry competitiveness and coordinate the regional development to realize a common prosperity, and get a simultaneously develop in economic, culture and people鈥檚 livelihood.
