The replica of an 18th century Swedish ship left for Guangzhou on June 28 after its last stop Jakarta of Indonesia. The ship originated from the Swedish port city of Gothenburg on October 2 last year.
Captain Peter Kaaling said he knows the Guangzhou waters very well, although he has never been to China before. His biggest concern will be the typhoon on the South China Sea.
Currently there are over 80 sailors on the ship. Only 15 of them are professional sailors and the rest are amateurs. There are also 12 Chinese on the ship. Two are sailors and the others are reporters.
Sailor Zhang Jie, who is from Guangzhou and boarded the ship in Jakarta, said that when she got on the boat, she felt like she was entering a real fairy tale park. She added that she will wear a traditional Chinese traditional dress called Qipao when she arrives in Guangzhou.
The ship's visit to Guangzhou is to celebrate the Sino-Swedish ties and the Sea Silk Road that the Gothenburg traveled 260 years ago.
